Copper wire rod
Main characteristics
- Technical specifications 1844-010-03292517-2004
- Diameter — 8 mm;
- Specific electrical resistivity — 0,01707 Ом*мм2/м. max;
- supplied in coils weighing 2400-3400 kg.
Copper wire rod is manufactured from М00к cathode copper according to GOST 546 by continuous casting and rolling.
Copper wire rod is manufactured under mark KMO (stands for Russian abbreviation of ‘copper wire rod brighten’) met the quality requirements of categories А, В and С.
Copper wire rod is in line with American Standard ASTM B 49-10.
Wire rod has equal cross section over its entire length. The cross section is round, diameter of 8.0 mm. Extreme deviations of diameter and ovality of copper rod do not exceed ± 0.38 mm for categories А and B, and ± 0.5 mm for category C.
The entire length of the wire rod should have a clean, smooth surface without cracks and foreign inclusions. Certain surface defects (overlaps, cuts, scratch marks, scratches, burrs, dimples, slivers) not exceeding in depth and height for wire rod category A — 0.1 mm, category B — 0.2 mm, category C — 0.3 mm
The thickness of surface oxide film should not exceed: 750 Angstrom for category A, 1000 Å for category B, and 1000 Å for category C.
Chemical composition of copper wire rod meets the requirements of GOST 859, namely:
- category A rod is equal to М00 copper with oxygen content of 0.02 to 0.035%;
- category B rod is equal to М0 copper with oxygen content less than 0.045%;
- category C rod is equal to М1 copper with oxygen content less than 0.05%;
Specific electrical resistivity of copper wire rod should not exceed for:
- category A – 0.01707 Оhm*mm2/m;
- category B – 0.01718 Оhm*mm2/m;
- category C – 0.01724 Оhm*mm2/m.
Elongation of category A rod should be 38% min., for category B is 35% min., and for category C 35% min. Tensile strength — 160 N/ mm2 minimum.
Copper wire rod should be able to sustain the 10 twist-untwist test with neither fracture nor reveal of casting or rolling defects (laps, cracks, slivers, voids) which are less than 0.1 mm for category A, 0.3 mm for categories B and C.
Copper wire rod of category A should sustain more than 50 twists till fracture, category B – minimum of 45 twists, category C – minimum of 40 twists.
Product form and packaging
Copper wire rod is one-piece coiled with weight of 500 kg minimum and 3,400 kg ± 10% maximum.
Coils of wire rod should be tightly tied in minimum four places by steel band or ribbon made of other materials suitable for such application, eliminating uncoiling or skewing of coils during transportation. Coils of wire rod should be shipped to the consumer on wooden pallets, which prevent wire rod from mechanical damages during transportation. Wire rod should be wrapped. The wrap should be weather-protective and also should protect rod from dirt. Copper rod is wrapped in polymer film with lining material above the pallets. Silica gel of one (1) kg (or moisture absorber «PVB» of approx. one (1) kg) is put inside of each coil.
